La Moda en Piel, Bogota
Enrique Lizarazo runs La Moda en Piel, a family-owned shoe store in Bogota´s Chapinero district. Founded by Enrique´s father, who still works in the business, all shoes are custom-made by hand. The shoes are made in a cramped room at the back, a dusty, glue-smelling 40 square-metre room split into two levels. Most customers bring a pair of shoes they like and ask Enrique if he can make something similar. Once detailes are agreed, Enrique and his father set to work, preparing and marking the leather for cutting. Enrique´s mother handels the sewing, and two other staff members make the heels.
